One ton of molten slag contains about 1-2 GJ (280-550 kWh) of heat energy. Typically, slag is cooled by pouring it into a slag field and allowing the heat to react with the outside air. Another common option is to use large amounts of water to temper the slag. Neither option utilizes the enormous heat recovery potential of
